NEWS
Indian Railways adopted Train Collision Avoidance System

Indian Railways adopted Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) as the national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, and announced intention to roll it out on a large section of the Indian Railways in a progressive manner. TCAS is also re-christened as Kavach. Several tenders have been called out to deploy Kavach in the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah sections, under the Mission Raftar project, designed to increase train speed up to 160 kmph.

HBL, as the lead member of a consortium with Siemens, signed the first contract under Mission Raftar, with Eastern Railway for deployment of Kavach over 260 kms of track and 120 locomotives, from Howrah to Pradhankhanta. The contract price is Rs 286.69 Cr and must be completed in 700 days. HBL’s workshare in this contract is Rs 205.88 Cr, while Siemens’ workshare is Rs 80.81 Cr.

Integral Coach Factory (ICF) is manufacturing the Vande Bharat trainsets, designed to run at 160 kmph. Indian Railways decided to install Kavach in Vande Bharat trainsets, at the time of their manufacture. HBL received a purchase order from ICF for the supply of 46 sets of Kavach, at a total price of Rs 31.66 Cr. Deliveries begin in Nov 2022 and will be completed by Jul 2023.

Designed for India” and “Made in India” TCAS

HBL, with its vision to develop innovative, affordable and indigenous signalling solutions for the Indian Railways, pioneered the development of Train Collision Avoidance System (Automatic Train Protection).

HBL’s ATP protects trains from unsafe situations and avoids collisions. It is approved by RDSO-Ministry of Railways, India and certified for the highest safety integrity level 4 by ItalCertifer, an independent safety assessor from Italy, empanelled by RDSO.

In Nov 2019, South Central Railway awarded a contract to HBL for the installation of TCAS over a 350 kms stretch, covering 34 stations and 30 locomotives. Work has already begun on this contract. Further, Indian Railways approved the installation of TCAS on about 25000 kms of track in various railway zones across the country. These projects are expected to roll out, beginning financial year 2020-21.

“Designed for India” and “Made in India” TCAS, at much lower costs as compared to alternate imported ATP solutions, is HBL’s tribute to the families of those who got killed or injured in train collision accidents that they have not suffered in vain!

HBL battery chargers certified by DCRP, Oman!

HBL announce certification of their battery chargers by the coveted Distribution Code Review Panel (DCRP), Oman.

DCRP reviews the distribution code of the electricity system, less than 132 KV by coordinating between the licensed distributors of electricity in Sultanate of Oman, the Authority for electricity regulations and other companies that are forming the electricity sector. This certification will pave the way for the best technology to enter the distribution network, matching with Oman Electrical Standards (OES).

HBL underwent an evaluation process that included quality management system assessment, management system documentation review, audit and initial assessment. This certification demonstrates our commitment to provide consistent and high-quality products and services to our clients and our on-going investment in technology and development.
